UP Political Science Society (UP POLIS) is a socioacademic organization of political science students of the University of
the Philippines Manila.
In the words of UP POLIS alumni:
"It was not unusual for many to ask what PULIS is. Some did it out of jest; others because they had no idea who we
were. The latter was true especially when the organization was just starting from scratch way back in 2001.
It seems POLIS may have done pretty well because we are no longer mistaken for cops. We really have found a niche in both
the serious and the fun side of UP life. One moment you will find us dead serious in a forum or trading scathing but witty
words in debate. At another time, you will see us strutting our stuff on a fashion show!
POLIS has a crop of dedicated members. Maybe it is that everyone- belongs-to-a-POLIS dictum of the Greek philosophers.
Seriously, our growth is the result of our hard work in showing that this one-time CAS best organization is not just another
entry in ones resume. We have fun also like in a family. We can talk lofty philosophies and still have that common touch.
Just ask us about telenovelas and showbiz, you will understand what that means.
Above all, POLIS is an organization that is not afraid to make stands on issues. Others would criticize us for being apolitical
i.e. not a member of any political party. For them, it is an irony but for us it is a principled choice. It is a stand to
do what we think is right without the squabbles of campus politics. Liberating? You bet."
